LibraryCould all students return their Summer Reading books and any other overdue books by the 16th of February Thanks
MakeupSubtle, discrete, non-obvious makeup may be worn by students.  There is no need for eye makeup.  If students choose to flout these rules, we will be forced to ban all makeup.  Please be responsible.

Film CompetitionFocus on Ability Short Film Festival. Produce a short film or documentary. The underlying theme of your entry should focus on Ability as opposed to Disability. Cash prizes. entries close 30 June/Hune 2016. Poster in the competitions noticeboard near the senior toilets or see Mrs Tor in Room 16 for more details.

2016 Reading ChallengeStudents, staff and parents can see Mrs Tor to pick up a copy of this reading challenge. It involves things like reading a book published before you were born, a book that intimidates you, a book you can read in a day etc. You have all year and we hope to collate the results in the library.
Year 9 and 10 Non-Competitive ShakespearePlease see Mrs Tor in Room 16 if you are interested in participating in this year's Shakespeare. We are doing 'Julius Caesar' this year.
Year 9-13 netballIf you are wanting to play for the school this year and have not got a permission slip please come and see me.  If you have already got one please let your parent/caregiver know that the deposit MUST be paid by 16 February NOT April - sorry typo.  Nga mihi.
Years 11 - 13 Race Unity Speech AwardsDetails are in the competition notice board or see Mrs Tor in Room 16 for more details. The theme this year is Stand Up for Race Unity - don't be a bystander. Your speech could be used as part of your NCEA.

Cultural
Concert BandThis starts on Wednesday, period one this week.

Kapa HakaSeniors -Year 7 to 13 meet in Kia Piri period 3 next Monday. New members welcome. We have a festival at the end of the term and are planning a trip to Rotorua towards the end of the year.

Juniors Year 4 to 6 Thursdays period 5 starting next week. we are planning another Whangarei Library performance.

Hockey players

Hockey Northland is proud to announce we are running 2 pre-season age-group development camps with some of Northlands best players and coaches including Black Stick Shay Neal. These pre-season camps will be focused on a range of basic skills and gameplay and awareness.

U13 (Year 7&8) Development Camp
Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st February 2016
8.30am - 3.00pm daily...
$40.00 per child (for both days) - players may attend 1 day please email us!

Motor Bike Relay

(Please collect and return a form to the office)  Tauraroa Area School Inter-SchoolMotorcycle Competition

When:-    Sunday 13th March                    Where:- McCarroll's Property, 69a Cassidy Road,Paparoa

What:-Bring your own bike, helmet, and protective clothing, your snacks and drink. Quadfriendly.

Cost:-   $20/ rider (Food availablefor purchase on the day)

 

Teamsof 4 riders around a set track, 8 laps /team.

 

Fourcompetitions

Novice (Younger riders maybe followed by a parent or mature rider as support around a simple track)

Competent Juniors- Up to Year 8   

Seniors- Year 9 to13.    

Mixed- 1 Adult,two year 9-13, 0ne up the year 8.

Each member of the team wears a specific arm band around our 9-10 min track andthen hands it on to the next rider. Each rider completes 2 circuits in total.

Team'sfirst rider start at 30 sec intervals till all teams have started.

Time:-  Registration Juniors 8am, Seniors10am. Practise loop before Relaystarts, Novice 9am, Juniors 10 am, Seniors 12.30pm, Mixed2.30. If enough time at the end, we will have a competition- fastest timearound the track.

 

Mixed-team event- 4 riders/team (Teams can be made up onthe day with other riders if there are enough spaces.)

1 Junior rider       2 Senior riders   1Parent/adult/experienced rider (it is possible for riders to move up a level.)
